Movie Review - There Will Be Blood

After weeks of anticipation, I finally had the opportunity to see There Will Be Blood. The hype surrounding this film is mostly involving Daniel Day Lewis' performance and there is no question that his performance is most definitely one for the ages. However, what hasn't been mentioned as much is how wonderful both Paul Dano and Dillion Freasier are as well. The film is both bold and powerful, all while Lewis gives one of the greatest portraylals of a villain that I can remember. This is insanity at it's finest and once again proves that Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the greatest directors of this generation.

Rating: 4.25 (out of 5)

Although I am technically not qualified to give my opinion (I have only seen 3 of the 5 nominated pictures) , I will go ahead and give it anyways. This would be my selection for Best Picture by a slight margin over No Country For Old Men and most definitely over the overrated Juno.

Royal Rumble Recap

This is my first post in quite some time. I never finished my top 10 lists because I was never quite satisfied with the way they turned out and I have been pretty busy the past few weeks. This year I have promised myself that I will try to review every new album and movie I see this year. If I can do at least half of them, I will be happy.

The Royal Rumble was last night, could it live up to last year's classic event? Let's take a look.

1. MVP vs. Ric Flair
I seem to have liked this match much less than most. Granted, we missed about a 1/4th of this match due to some idiot messing with the remote, this just seemed kind of slow (Kevin gave this a .75 out of 100, which may have been a tad extreme). Hopefully as a result of the clean loss, MVP goes on a tear so that the build up to him and Matt Hardy is top notch.

Unofficial Rating: .75 (out of 5)

2. Chris Jericho vs. JBL
The more I thought about this match, the more I liked it. It is no secret that I am Jericho's biggest fan and I thought for sure I had liked this match more than the casual fan, but I guess I was wrong. The post-match antics were great and really took this feud to the next level. JBL, on the other hand, looked very rusty and hopefully will be in better shape for their next matchup. JBL wins by DQ after a sick chair shot.

Unofficial Rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

3. Rey Mysterio vs. Edge
This was a feud that seemed kind of thrown together, but I'll take an Edge/Rey Mysterio feud any day. These guys work together well and have an intriguing dynamic when working together. This was a little short for my liking, but the ending sequence was top notch. Edge wins via an awesome spear.

Unofficial Rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

4. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton
I can't remember the last time I was looking forward to a WWE title match as much as I was with this one. This feud has been handled so well and the crowd reaction for it has been outstanding. However, I didn't like how they ended this match. Things were going along just fine, with Hardy dominating most of the way. Then out of nowhere, we get an RKO and that's it. I have no problem with Hardy losing, although he is deserving of a title run in the near future, but he deserved a better finish than that. Minus that, this was the best singles match of the night.

Unofficial Rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

5. Royal Rumble
The Royal Rumble is always fun, especially when surprises are involved. In case you haven't heard, John Cena returned! Considering this guy wasn't even supposed to fight at WrestleMania, the fact that he was able to compete on this show is just amazing. Hate him all you want, but you can't take away the fact that he is as hard working as they come. The rumble was solid at the beginning, but dragged a little in the middle. However, with the ending that they put on, I have to give this a high rating. Fun match.

Unofficial Rating: 4 (out of 5)

Overall: A great show to start off 2008. I don't know if I can say I liked it better than last year's, but it was darn close. Hats off to the WWE for pulling off the biggest surprise since Edge won the world title at New Year's Revolution in 2006. Oh, and hats off to John Cena for being the rehab machine. Chris wanted me to mention him in this post. I will mention his beard. It is quite thick these days.
