Movie Review - Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Say what you will about the long anticipated sequel, but the film was never boring. Yes there were some unnecessary scenes (the monkey scene anyone?) and maybe the whole alien plot just wasn't for you (I enjoyed it), but this film accomplished what it set out to do; to entertain. This is a popcorn flick for people who love adventure films. When the cast signed on for this, no one was expecting to win any awards. Sure, I know you could say that about any movie, but this one actually succeeds at entertaining, where many films of the genre fail miserably. So far, this and Iron Man are the two big movies of the summer, and while most are recommending Iron Man, I say go with Dr. Jones.

NFL Power Rankings

I know it's early, but here is a pre-pre-season Power Ranking.

1. New York Giants
They are number one until they are defeated. Which considering they're in the NFC East, may come pretty quickly.

2. New England Patriots
Their defense is a concern, but their offense will still light it up.

3. Indianapolis Colts
When is this team not in the top 5?

4. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags will be a pretty popular pick to do well this year. They could be Super Bowl bound.

5. Dallas Cowboys
I'm still not sold on this team as much as everyone else is.

6. San Diego Chargers
If Rivers is healthy, they have a shot at winning the AFC. They were pretty darn close last year.

7. Cleveland Browns
They are unproven, but they should win quite a few football games this year.

8. Philadelphia Eagles
They finished strong and I think the momentum will carry over to this season.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers
If they can get the running game going, and they should, this team should be a contender.

10. Seattle Seahawks
Being in a weak division helps, but it will be interesting to see this offense with Julius Jones instead of Shaun Alexander.

11. New Orleans Saints
This team disappointed last season, but they won't this year.

12. Minnesota Vikings
Another team in a weak division. They have a very solid defense and some guy named Adrian Peterson.

13. Carolina Panthers
This is a make or break year for the Panthers, who had the 2nd best draft this year. I think they will make the playoffs and possibly do some damage.

14. Washington Redskins
I'm not a fan of Jason Campbell, but the rest of this team is very solid. Too bad they're in the NFC East.

15. Buffalo Bills
This team was near the bottom in both offense and defense last year, yet almost made the playoffs. They are hard working and over achievers and I think they have an outside shot at making that 6th playoff spot.

16. New York Jets
They spent a lot of money this year and had a very nice draft. We'll see who is playing QB though.

17. Houston Texans
They are a step or two behind Indy and Jacksonville, but are getting closer every year.

18. Green Bay Packers
They are young and should still be a solid team. Just too many question marks to have them higher.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I'm not sure on this team yet. I don't know if they have the fire power to keep up this year.

20. Detroit Lions
This will be perhaps the most interesting season in my 20 years of watching.

21. Denver Broncos
This is the worst team Shanahan has ever had. Luckily, he's in the AFC West.

22. Arizona Cardinals
I probably should have them higher, but I'm still not sold on this team yet. I really think they could go either way.

23. Tennessee Titans
I love Jeff Fischer, but they still aren't doing much to improve this team.

24. St. Louis Rams
This team is a dark horse to make the playoffs. If they can stay healthy, that is.

25. Chicago Bears
Could there be a worse offense?

26. Kansas City Chiefs
This team can win some games if Larry Johnson is back to normal.

27. Baltimore Ravens
This will be a rebuilding year, but I wouldn't completely rule them out. They should still be competitive.

28. Cincinnati Bengals
This team is a mess right now. If Chad Johnson is happy, this team will move up the chart.

30. San Francisco 49ers
I still don't see this team winning too many games with Alex Smith.

30. Atlanta Falcons
This team should be a little bit more fun to watch this year.

31. Oakland Raiders
I don't see them winning too many games this year with Russell at QB.

32. Miami Dolphins
It's going to take another year until this team is competitive.

Movie Review - Iron Man

Iron Man is the first blockbuster to be released this year and that's exactly what it aims to be. Instead of the seriousness of the Batman series, this follows more along the lines of the Spider-Man series, integrating both humor and action. The most obvious positive to this film (soon to be franchise) is the great cast. Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic as the title character and Jeff Bridges is convincing as Iron Man's co-worker and nemesis. The way that the movie takes place in current times is also a nice touch, making it a little different than the other superhero movies. However, the plot holds this film back from being great. We get the typical story, where the bad guy is someone we were to assume was good, who then goes on to take over the world. Plotline aside, this is still a fun movie and most definitely better than most superhero movies out there.
