Movie Review - Horton Hears A Who!

I have been a loyal fan of Pixar since the first Toy Story, and a fan of Disney since birth. When I see an animated movie, it's hard for me not to compare them to either Pixar or Disney. Maybe I'm biased, but it seems that I have yet to see one that really lives up to those standards. I still believe that Shrek is one of the worst movies to ever become a blockbuster. I was excited when I caught word that they were doing Horton Hears A Who! for two reasons. One, I love Dr. Seuss and two, the vocal cast features many of my favorite performers. Coincidentally, these two reasons are also the two things that hurt the movie in the long run. Dr. Suess's stories are short, so in order to make a feature film out of them, there has to be some creativity involved. However, the writers seemed to be a little lazy and afterwords you feel as if nothing really happened in the story. My biggest complaint though is the use of the vocal talent. When selecting voices for characters, it just seems as if they don't put any thought into the person doing the voice fitting the character. Seth Rogen as a little mouse? Jim Carrey as an elephant? Maybe most people don't agree, but you have to respect that Pixar picks voices due to them being the best for the part, as opposed to picking a bankable star. Despite my ranting, this is not a bad movie, just not nearly as good of one as it could have been.
